Red Lacewing

This butterfly is simply one of my favorites to work with. At first glance, the wings of this butterfly offer a bold coloration of black and red, but it is the rich patterns throughout that command closer inspection. This spectacular species name is Cethosia Biblis, though it is more commonly known as a "Red Lacewing" and it is a member of the Nymphalidae family that can be natively found in southern Asia. With a gentle touch I have encased these butterfly wings in several layers of hand painted resin by following their flowing form to create a very natural appeal. The resin that I use is clear so what you see are the natural colors of the butterfly. This resin does transmute the colors slightly as it turns the wings semi-transparent giving them an appearance very much like stained glass. Wonderfully light weight and easy to wear, each of the wings measure approximately 1 3/8 inches in length and are suspended by hypo-allergenic earwire. Absolutely beautiful to behold, I am sure that you will enjoy examining the finer details of these butterfly wings.
