Red Lacewing

This real butterfly necklace is truly one of my favorites to work with. At first glance, the wings of this butterfly offer a bold coloration of black and red, but it is the rich patterns throughout that command closer inspection. This spectacular species name is Cethosia Biblis, though it is more commonly known as a "Red Lacewing". It is a member of the Nymphalidae family that can be natively found in southern Asia. With a rather light touch, I have encased this butterfly in several layers of hand painted resin, following its gentle form to create a very natural appearance. The resin that I use is clear so what you see are the true colors of the butterfly. Though the resin does transmute the colors slightly as it turns the wings semi-transparent giving it an appeal very much like stained glass. The wing span of this elegant butterfly is only 2 3/4", making for a serene presence. This pendant comes on an 18" 1.5mm black leather cord with a small chain extension and an easy to use lobster clasp. An absolute beauty to behold, I am sure you will enjoy examining this butterflies amazing details.
