Madagascar Sunset Moth - Top Wing
It is hard to believe that such extraordinary beauty like this can be found in the wings of a simple moth. They graciously offer a sea of black satin that supports a wonderfully abstract pattern of iridescent green that glitters and gleams as it plays in the light. Though I have tried my best, anyone who has seen one of these wonderful creatures in person, knows that photos will never do their incredible beauty justice. This spectacular moth is can be found in its native habitat on the island of Madagascar. Highly sought after by collectors, its species name is Urania Ripheus but it is far better known as the "Madagascar Sunset Moth". With carefully craftsmanship, I have sandwiched these selections of wing between two pieces of hand cut glass. Then using copper foil they are held together while I skillfully finish with Lead Free Solder. Suspended by hypo-allergenic earwires, each earring measures 1/2" wide by 7/8" tall and they are remarkably light weight and fun to wear. Eye catching, to say the least, these earrings will be sure to make for an interesting conversation starter.
