Madagascar Sunset Moth - Bottom Wing
Nothing can quite compare to the captivatingly beautiful colors of these moth wings. The rainbow of iridescent colors seem to shift and shimmer as the light dances across their surface. Although I have tried my best, anyone who has seen one of these wonderful moths in real life understands that photos will never do this incredible beauty justice. Dazzling, to say the least, this species is native to the island of Madagascar. Highly sought after by collectors, its scientific name is Urania Ripheus but it is far better known as the "Madagascar Sunset Moth". With carefully craftsmanship, I have sandwiched these selections of wing between two pieces of hand cut glass. Then using copper foil they are held together while I skillfully finish with Lead Free Solder. Suspended by hypo-allergenic earwires, each earring measures 1/2" wide by 7/8" tall and they are remarkably light weight and fun to wear. Though it may be hard to believe that colors like this can be found in nature, you are sure to find these natural beauties absolutely riveting.
