Five Bar Swordtail

The bold patterns of these butterfly wings certainly make for an interesting pair of earrings. Each wing features dramatic black stripes with hints of lime green on a sea of soft translucent white. This exotic species name is Graphium Antiphates but it is commonly referred to as a "Five Bar Swordtail". It is a member of the Papilionidae family which can be found natively in southern Asia. With a delicate touch I have encased these butterfly wings in several layers of hand painted resin by following their gentle form to create a very natural appeal. The resin that I use is clear so what you see are the natural colors of the butterfly. This resin does transmute the colors slightly as it turns the wings semi-transparent giving them an appearance very much like stained glass. Curiously light weight and easy to wear, each of the wings measure approximately 1 5/8 inches in length and are suspended by hypo-allergenic earwire. Simply striking in appearance, when you wear these real butterfly earrings they will surely bring out the curiosity in others.
