Five Bar Swordtail

The bold patterns of this real butterfly necklace truly make it quite an eye catcher. Its semitransparent wings are a milky white with hints of lime green and a fascinating pattern of subdued black throughout. This exotic species name is Graphium Antiphates but it is commonly referred to as a "Five Bar Swordtail". It is a member of the Papilionidae family which can be found natively in southern Asia. With a delicate hand, I have encased this butterfly in several layers of hand painted resin, following its flowing form to create a very natural appearance. The resin that I use is clear so what you see are the natural colors of the butterfly. Though the resin does transmute the colors slightly as it turns the wings semi-transparent giving it an appeal very much like stained glass. The wing span of this natural beauty is 3 5/8", making for a spectacular statement. This lovely pendant comes on an 18" 1.5mm black leather cord with a small chain extension and an easy to use lobster clasp. An excellent example of fine craftsmanship, you will enjoy examining this butterflies finer details.
