Apollonia

I am sure you will find this real butterfly necklace absolutely riveting. Its wings have a spectacular black and white pattern that radiate outward, leading the eye back to the center where purplish dots reside. The reverse side is fascinating too as it features the same radiating pattern. But here it is with a stronger black and a captivating green that highlight its markings. This rare specimens name is Lyropteryx Apollonia, though it is better known as the "Apollo Metalmark". It is a member of the Riodinidae family that can be natively found in the tropical areas of South America. I have sandwiched the wings of this butterfly between two pieces of glass that I cut by hand. Then using copper foil I hold it all together so that I can skillfully finish with lead free solder. This pendant measures 1 1/8" tall by 2 1/8" wide making for an unusual and intriguing shape. It comes on an 18 inch 1.5mm black leather cord with a small chain extension and an easy to use lobster clasp. Being totally reversible, you will enjoy deciding which side best fits your style for the day.
